“Ghost” (In his own words)

They tell me Ghost stands for “Good Horse, Outstanding, Super, Terrific”.  They have that right, except the “s” should stand for superior.  I am a proud and incredibly handsome Andalusian.  Just ask my girlfriend, Cinnamon.  We have a mutual admiration society.  I probably don’t look like the type of horse you expect to find at a horse rescue.
I started off at the facility as just a foal being boarded.  But my owners had little time to visit and work with me, and as I grew strong and powerful, they were afraid of me, so they visited even less.  I spent four years in a small pen craving attention.  No one worked with me or taught me anything a horse should know about humans.  When someone did come and see me I was so happy I pushed them around the same way horses play.  This scared most people even more.  But my rescue owner, John, started to work with me and let me do all sorts of new things.

He took me to run in the arena with other horses (all slower than me, except Cinnamon, the race horse), he had my feet trimmed and took me out to graze.  John talked to me and worked with me for a long time so I wouldn’t be afraid of going new places and experiencing new things.  My favorite day was when he took me for a long trail ride in Cherry Creek Reservoir over bridges and even through water.  John was surprised at how wonderful I was my first time out in public.  He will learn how smart I am.  I will make him proud. I am even working on my bow.  My favorite food is “horse cookies” and I will search your pockets for them.

Most of the horses here are rescued from abuse or because their owners can’t keep them any more.  I was rescued from neglect.
